Collaborative Solutions to Family Law Divorce/Separation
Collaborative Practice is a way for you to resolve your family issues during divorce or separation without going to court. With guidance and support from a team of collaborative professionals whom you choose, the objective is a respectful ending to your time together and a healthy beginning to new lives for you, your partner and your children.
Collaborative Practice was pioneered in the early 1990’s by Minnesota lawyer, Stu Webb. There are a number of collaborative models and you ultimately decide the best one for you.
When you commit to a collaborative process you agree to:
The Team Model
The Collaborative team is put together by you. You choose your coach and Collaborative Lawyer, a financial advisor to help you understand your financial options. This is smart thinking. A child specialist may be invited to be the voice of the children in the process.
Your team works closely together, sharing information and listening to your needs and wants to achieve the best outcome possible.
It is up to you to decide which Collaborative expert you first make contact with. He or she will advise you if they feel other professionals and experts could help. A Collaborative team aims to empower you so that you are fully involved in this important part of your life. You are in control with a team to back you up.
